I didn't want to settle, I didn't want to have regrets. I stayed in school for a very, very long time, enjoying my independence and my freedom. So here I am, 35. All women known what this means. The big "high risk" age. Granted I am well on my way, planning my up-coming wedding with my fiancee and purchasing our dream home.
But these days, I'm getting a lot of conflicting advice from well-intentioned folks. My doctor urged me to start a family right away. "Don't wait any longer!" she said. She's 42 with a 19-year-old son! This woman had her first child at the age of 23! On the other hand, all of my married friends are urging me to wait at least one year into our marriage before starting a family. That would put me at 37, possibly 38 at the time of my delivery. Is that really too old?! Granted I have no medical problems of any kind and I get regular checkups each year since I was 22.
I'm sure many women are in my situation these days. Every week I'm hearing about another actress having their first child over the age of 35. Women are delaying child birth for various reasons. But have our bodies gotten the memo?
